“Midad” is Arabic for ink, the ink Arab writers used for centuries. We chose the name because we make tools for people who write today: in Arabic first, and in English too.
Our story
Midad began with a simple question: why do Arabic writers feel like guests on the web? Most blog themes are designed for English, with Arabic added at the very end: flipped layouts, fonts that do not suit Arabic letters, punctuation in the wrong place.
We wanted the opposite: a theme that starts from Arabic, respecting its letters, direction and rhythm, and then embraces English with the same care, for people who write in both languages or speak to two audiences.
What we believe
- Arabic first, not translated later. Every detail is designed right to left from the start, then tested in English.
- Reading before decoration. A calm page, clear type and generous spacing. The words come first.
- Simple and fast. No heavy page builders, no complexity. A fast site you edit in the WordPress editor itself.
- Respect for readers. No advertising trackers, no annoying pop-ups.
- Straightforward dealings. A clear price, a clear licence, and support that answers in your language.
What we make
The Midad theme for WordPress: a fast, minimal blog theme for Arabic and English, with night mode, three colour styles, email subscription, and every part editable in the Site Editor.
And this blog is Midad’s home: we write here about writing, books and cities, and use the theme ourselves every day. What you see here is what you get.
Who is behind Midad
A small team that loves writing, design and the Arabic web. We test every release before publishing it, and keep improving the theme based on what the people who use it tell us.
